AIRMATIC, a leading distributor of bulk solids handling equipment in the Northeastern United States, has introduced the new Teflon-Coated Spike Bob Level Sensor manufactured by its Core Product Supplier, BINMASTER®. BINMASTER®’s new Spike Bob is a weight and cable-based sensor specifically adapted for measuring powders and solid material that may adhere to the sensor probe.
It is ideal for materials that are prone to static cling, are sticky such as silica or frack sand, powdered chemicals or minerals, additives and ingredients, or any material that tends to build up on the sensor probe. The Teflon coating on the probe has FDA approval which also enables it to be used in bins, tanks, or silos containing ingredients used in animal and human food processing or pharmaceutical environments.
Measuring the level of sticky materials can create difficulties for some operations. If material should build up on the sensor, periodic maintenance would be needed to clean out the sensor probe. Also, built-up material on the probe could begin to spoil over time and potentially cause contamination. Powders that spoil over time can become a sold mass that may enter the production process. The Teflon-coated probe can be used in place of a traditional steel spike bob when the user wants the added assurance that build-up won’t occur. Like all SmartBob sensors, the Teflon-coated sensor helps save time, money, and increases safety when measuring materials in bins by eliminating the need to climb bins and take manual measurements. Acting as an automated tape measure, the sensor takes measurements at predetermined time intervals or on demand. The Teflon-coated sensor is automatically dropped to the material surface and when contact is made, it immediately retracts and, by counting pulses, calculates a highly accurate measurement from the top of the silo to the material surface.
The Teflon-coated sensor is compatible with eBob software, remote data monitoring services, and accessories in the SmartBob product line. It can be used in a mixed network of SmartBobs or other level sensors which are measuring other materials. Measurements from the sensor can be displayed along with data from all other vessels in the operation when the C-100 console or eBob software is being used.
